RFP Process / Live Auctions

The Premium Names Application Process for Trademark Holders (administered by WIPO) concluded in 2006 and dotMobi will be allocating the remainder of its Premium Names during the next couple of years. There will be several allocation mechanisms including:

Request for Proposals (RFP) Process

The RFP process was approved by ICANN and was developed in collaboration with dotMobi's Policy Advisory Board. It provides an opportunity to develop critical mobile user content in order to promote the adoption and use of the .mobi domain.

The first Request for Proposals (RFP) process commenced in November 2006 and has now closed. There is currently no open RFP process.

For further information on the RFP application process that was in place, please download our application.

Successful RFP applicants are required to enter into contract discussions with dotMobi; please download the template RFP contract.

Live Auctions

The first set of .mobi domain names were sold via auction at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East domain conference in Hollywood, Florida, on October 27, 2006. dotMobi has participated in several T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auctions since then.

The terms and conditions that were applicable for participation in these prior T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auctions (with respect to .mobi domains) are available here.

Wednesday, February 20, 2008 Live and Silent Auctions

Following these successful auctions, dotMobi is making a select group of 14 domain names from its Premium Names list available via live and silent auctions at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West domain conference in Las Vegas on February 20, 2008, hosted by Moniker.

Given the free mobile content tools like ready.mobi and site.mobi that dotMobi has built over the past year – using proceeds from previous auctions – dotMobi has content requirements for the winners of the February 20, 2008 live and silent T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West auctions. This is to ensure that these names will have sites with relevant, mobile-ready content behind them and will join the millions of pages of .mobi content that are already live. These buyer requirements include:

  • Domain to be registered by auction winner within 10 days of receiving authorization code
  • Site to initially consist of a .mobi-compliant parking page
  • Best efforts to create, launch and operate a live web site with relevant content within six months. (For example, acupuncture.mobi should not display a site for car sales.)
  • Fully compliant site with an http://ready.mobi score of at least 4/5.

For more information on winning biddder requirements, see the dotMobi Auction End User Agreement. Also, winning bidders will also be asked to sign a dotMobi Terms & Conditions document before the sale is completed.

See the list of selected dotMobi Premium Names that will be available via live and silent auction at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West 2008.

To learn more about the live and silent auctions, see the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West domain conference site.
